I recently met Carrie from Alpenglow Yarn for lunch, and left with some of this fabulous alpaca yarn to use in the upcoming design collection.
This chunky, squishy alpaca is gorgeous in its simplicity.
It is an undyed 100% alpaca fiber collected from and milled by farms local to where I live in California.
I love that the name of the alpacas it came from is printed on the label... and...
although it could be considered annoying by some, I love that while I'm knitting this fiber I am finding little bits of vegetation in it. This is the real deal. I am loving the rustic nature of this yarn.
Another benefit. It's thick!
This latest design worked up in a snap! And I even finally found a use for these amazing buttons that I had in my stash from long ago. I've been waiting for the perfect project for these!
I am one happy knitter right now. :)
Back to work I go!

such pretty buttons! they go perfectly with the yarn ^_^
Great buttons! I am really looking forward to seeing this latest design collection revealed in all it's glory. And I totally agree with you, finding the occasional piece of hay in my yarn is so much fun, it makes it feel so real!
that yarn looks gorgeous. i love alpaca and i love the squishyness of it.
Those are sharp pictures of the yarn and your new project. You dole out hints so sparingly. :-)
The yarn looks fabulously soft, the buttons are beautiful and the project looks divine!
I hope the pregnancy is going well.
Wow I love that yarn!!!!!!! I can't wait to see your design for it. I am a boat builder and it reminds me of the caulking cotton that we are using in our timber yacht under construction at the moment. Keep up the great work and rest a little too. :-)
Yarn looks very soft - what weight is it? I can't guess because it's looks in between our DK and Aran weight alpaca. Lush to knit with I bet!
I agree- buttons go so well with this yarn! Good choice!
Those are indeed the *most* perfect buttons ! I personally enjoy picking little bit's of weeds and hay out of my yarns, really, I do.
Oh, that looks so soft and squishy!
Great Yarn!
It is hard to beat alpaca. The yarn looks gorgeous!
The yarn looks so squishy and wonderful, nice! I love your sneak peek picture, can't wait to see what it's become.
Lovely yarn! Gorgeous buttons!
oh WOW. that chunky alpaca yarn looks so squishy and cuddly, and those buttons are amazing!! Can't wait to see more shots.
That looks like such beautiful yarn!
How gorgeous! I love that you used undyed yarn.
I don't mind either finding hay in my yarn - quite the reverse, it reminds us of the sheep the yarn used to be on.
Beautiful yarn and buttons. I too am looking forward to seeing the reveal.
Oooh, I can almost feel the yarn from your photo. I actually knitted up one of your patterns (the Shawl-Collared Cowl) in a luscious ball of local Alpaca... and it was named for its animal contributor, too! I loved the feel of it in my fingers as I knitted, and I was sad when the project was completed.
Amanda :)
It looks very thick. You won't be cold wearing this, I can tell. Which is good!
I love Alpen Glow yarn! I discovered it during Stitches West (right before I found your booth!) and she is such a sweet heart. I also really like the philosophy of the company and it helps that the her colors are fantastic.
I can't wait to see what you knit up!
I love how the knitted item looks! The buttons are perfect with it :)
So cool to see Carrie's yarn knit up! I'm good friends with Carrie's mother and it's exciting to see her beautiful yarn. I love alpaca, so this will definitely be one to order!
