Blogiversary Book Giveaway!

In celebration of my four year "blogiversary" I have a nice stack of knitting books to give away!

I love knitting books. Love. Them.
There are so many fabulous books out there, but here are a few newer releases that will really round out your knitting library.

Starting at the top of the stack...

What a completely charming little book this is. This isn't just a book of knitting patterns, a book of essays, or a recipe book.. it is actually all three. And it is put together in a very touching way. This book is written and illustrated by Michelle Edwards and in it she shares the role that knitting has played in her relationships with family, friends and her community throughout her life.

A great, go-to accessory book of 60 patterns all using Cascade 220 Sport yarn. There are 20 hats, 20 scarves, and 20 mitten designs for you to choose from. This book offers many cute patterns in a wide variety of styles so there is something here for everyone. This is a great resource for knitted gift ideas.

If you enjoyed Wendy Bernards first book offering, Custom Knits, as I did, then you will also love Custom Knits 2. As someone who loves sweater knitting, I really appreciate Wendy's amazing insight on how to plan, alter, add-on, convert, and customize sweater patterns. This book contains tons of extremely useful information as well as several beautiful garment designs. An amazing publication for sure.. although the pictures of the women modeling their sweaters with their bikini bottoms will always make me chuckle just a little bit. :)

In this book, Vicki Stiefel and Lisa Souza offer up a fun and relaxed approach to knitting with their 10 secrets to knitting success. Its a great read with lots of fun stories, information, and interviews.. not to mention... some seriously cute patterns too! I desperately am wanting to make my daughter the
Princess Garden Skirt.

Finishing School: A Master Class for Knitters

Ok... I seriously am in love with this book! My time as a knitter has taught me how important finishing is for every knitted project. This book covers it all. Zippers.. seaming.. steeking.. blocking.. everything. It's a great reference book. I think that everyone should own a copy!

To enter to win this collection of five fabulous books, please leave a comment (including contact information) under this post. In your comment I'd love to hear how long you have been a reader of Never Not Knitting and what your favorite knitting book is. And no.. you don't have to say Coastal Knits. :)

I will randomly pick and announce a winner from among the comments left on Sunday December 4th.
You have until December 3rd to enter.

Remember only one comment per person please. And if you do not leave any contact information for me such as an email address, ravelry id, or so forth, I will have to pick another winner if your name is chosen.
I have had too many problems with unclaimed prizes and it's important that I am able to get ahold of you if you win. Thank you!

And just to make sure.. you do know about the blogiversary pattern sale, right?

Let's see, I guess I've been reding Never Not Knitting for about 18 months (more or less). As far as which book of these 5 would be my favorite, I'll say it's the one with the finishing techniques--I can use some help there! But my all time favorite knitting book is Debbie Stoller's Stitch 'N Bitch, as that was the one that made knitting "make sense" to me. Find me on Ravelry as AnnBan, or email me at adevineATmywayDOTcom. Thanks!

I have been reading your blog for about 3-4 months, just in time to pre-order Coastal Knits. Have finished Rustling Leaves Beret so far and loved knitting it. Coastal Knits is one of my favorite books, along with a Toe Up Sock book from Wendy Johnson. jhall84057@yahoo.com, and jhall84057 on Ravelry.

Thanks so much for the chance to win! I'm a relatively new knitter so I need all the resource books I can get!

Congratulations on your blogiversary! I'm not sure how long I've been reading your blog--It's on my Google Reader so I always know when you post something new. It may be nostalgia talking, but I love the original Stitch 'n' Bitch. That was the book I turned to when I first learned how to knit. I was too far from my mom to show her every dropped stitch, and there's a limit to what can be done over the phone! That book was really helpful to a beginning knitter. Now I'd love to add the Cascade book and the finishing book to my library.

I discovered your wonderful blog in late 2009 and have been a devoted follower since. Melanie Falick is a favourite and though I have about 500 knitting books, I would say that every time I look through Melanie's Handknit Holiday book from a few years back, I get completely lost. It's a treasure, for sure. Catherine.Mumby@gov.bc.ca

Me me me me me! I love knitting books SO. MUCH.

I have been following never not knitting for about 1 year. Can I have many favorite knitting books? If I have to name one, ok two, they would be Clara Parks Knitters Book of Wool and Knitters book of Yarn. But, really, I'm reading 3 or 4 other knitting books currently and they are my 'now' favorite too. I am the knitting book junky. I prefer technical, historical or specialised books versus pattern books, but I buy those too on occasions. Do we get a Coastal Knit in the mix?? hehe

My email is katerimc@gmail.com. Crossing fingers! And thank you for such a great giveaway.

Congratulations on your blogiversary! I've been reading your blog for about a year and think it's great. And such beautiful patterns and photography to boot!

I have a great love of stitch pattern compendiums, so Barbara Walker is definitely up there on the favourites list, but of the other books I have, I'd have to say Entrelac - The Essential Guide to Interlace Knitting because it is really good for learning entrelac (and has stitch patterns as well ;) ).
I don't have Coastal Knits but covet it greatly, so it's on my Christmas list.

I don't have a large knitting book library yet, and I'd love some new books to add to it! So far my go-to books have been a basic "learn-how-to-knit" guide in Finnish and Wendy Bernard's Custom Knits.

Hi Alana,
I've been listening to your podcast since Episode 10 - "A Good Yarn"...I was hooked with the 'never-ending Dad Sweater' and promptly went back and listened to all the previous episodes.
I don't just have one favorite book...I just have to mention 3: "For the Love of Knitting" by Kari Cornell (editor) reminds me that my knitting makes me an artist. EZ's "Knitting Without Tears" reminds me that my knitting is my own unique expression. And finally, "The Yarn Girls Guide to Kid Knits" by Julie and Jordana Jacobs. I found it at a yard sale and I love it for re-awakening me to the knitting I knew as an 8 year old. The sweater on page 58 is the best!

Happy blogiversary! I have to admit that I'm not completely sure for how long I've been following your blog. I think it must have been a year or so?
Being a "poor student", I don't own that many knitting books, but I do love "Knitting socks with handpainted yarn" and the vintage 60s children's pattern book I inherited from my grandma. I haven't knit anything from that book yet, but then I don't have a baby yet either...

All the books you present look like great resources... but if, in the unlikely case that I win, I were given a choice, I'd prefer "Finishing School: A Master Class for Knitters" - simply because I think that's the one that would teach me most.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I just got back into knitting after not having done it for 20 years, and not to blow smoke up your skirt or anything, but your patterns were really what got me excited about knitting again. I have already made several items from Coastal Knits, and truly that is my favorite knitting book.

Best wishes with your new little one!

Hard to choose just one favorite knitting book. I think the one I USE the most is Baby Beanies by Amanda Keeys - what a wonderful collection to choose from!

What a great contest! I found your podcast on Itunes! I really like them - they're very informative and insightful. I don't have any knitting books, so this would be a lovely start to my book "stash". Raveler rsrinstructor.

I've been reading it since last December, just after I learned to knit. The book I have used the most so far is The Knitter's Book of Finishing Techniques. It has been really helpful.

My ravelry username is summerjc.

I just came across your blog after purchasing Coastal Knits (already knit rustling leaves twice as gifts and am working on rocky coast for myself - the first thing I have knit for myself after YEARS of extensive knitting for others).
Lately my favorite book as been Knitting Without Tears- basic but some techniques in there that I hadn't thought of yet.

Hi! I love to read and especially love knitting books! What a fun giveaway! My favorite knitting book is probably Itty Bitty Hats by Susan B. Anderson b/c it is the first one I owned and it really got me knitting. I am always on the lookout for books that a relatively simple knitter like me would benefit from though.

I have been reading your blog for about a year I guess. I started knitting 2 years ago, so it hasn't been that long.

I'm shiggins on ravelry!
Thanks for sharing!

I love knitting books, too - for my husband's deepest sorrow... :)
Anyway, my favourite's are books about baby knitting and an old Hungarian serial called Kniitng and Crocheting. They were published in the 70's and there are a range of awesome ideas!
I've been reading your blog for a year or a year and a half, and I check it every day.
I would be sooooooooo glad if i could win these books. :)

This is my first time reading your blog, but I love listening to your podcast!I love knitting, but being a broke teenager, I can't do as much as I would like. These books would be a great prize! Looking at the Coastal Knit patterns online, I would love to make the Rustling Leaves beret and the Water's Edge cardigan. My favorite knitting book has to be Last Minute Knitted Gifts. It's a great resource. Thanks for all you've done, and I hope to hear more from you in the future! :)

Sincerely,
Amanda (bookworm118@gmail.com)

Hi Alana,
Congrats on your new baby!
I've been following your blog since early 2009. I remember seeing your Selbu Modern and thinking it was so pretty! And then your green Sienna cardi - I'm a green girl too and I was hooked.
Coastal Knits is on my Christmas wish list but if I had to choose a favorite knitting book I currently own I would pick The Knitter's Almanac by Elizabeth Zimmerman. I never get tired of reading through it.
Thanks for a great contest and blog!

Congratulations on your Blogiversary!!! I have been following your blog almost from the beginning - since January 2008. I love your projects, your photos and your posts which are just the right length to fit into a busy schedule. You are an inspiration Alana. I love knitting books, so it's hard for me to choose a favorite...I have to say I enjoyed reading Elizabeth Zimmermann's "Knitting Around" because she has a great attitude when it comes to knitting. Hope you and your little munchkin are doing great!
Best,

It's so hard for me to say which is my favorite knitting book as I seem to go to different ones for different needs. However, I have several "need to knit" patterns in "Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders: 101 Small Indulgences"

I have been reading your blog for only about six months but I find myself going back and reading posts from earlier years. Of the books in your giveaway, I'd love the Finishing School: A Master Class for Knitters! It's just what I need at this point in my knitting career as I am beginning to knit for others.

I do enjoy your blog and look forward to future posts. Take care,
