The car trip with your son screaming brought back memories. So sorry you had to go through that.

Thanks for a another great podcast!

Now I am in 2 minds about the whole knit, eat, grow local idea. In principle I think it is a good idea. But then I think we are a country (New Zealand) wanting to sell produce to the world and we want people to buy it . To tell you the truth I decided to try to knit with only NZ wool and have found that to be difficult to get the range of yarn that I would like. But having said that it would be cool to enhance my stash with such gorgeous yarns and books are highly valued in my house. I enjoy your blog keep it up.

What a wonderful book! I love that it actually lists the US yarn producers. Sometimes it's difficult to tell when a company is US but uses other wool or is international and uses US wool or what on earth is going on! I will have to buy that book if my luck doesn't pull through in this drawing. :)

"Local" info! What a wonderful book this would be for my car travels--I'm a driving fool! I'm just about to set off on a loooong driving trip from the midwest to Kodiak AK--4000 mi without side trips--with the return part including an auto ferry ride, Seattle, and perhaps even the Bay area, so I'd love to have a source of fiber for side trips.

[Obviously, this travel will severely cut into my knitting time for the next couple of months!]

Hi Alana, story about blue cable needle in your bed triggered my memory too. And so sorry for the trip with screaming child. I think I will never forget some of our trips like yours...
Shelter is spun in a "woolen" style, which is not often done for the commercial yarn. It gives more air and lightness to the yarn, but also pills easier. You can Google "worsted" and "woolen spun yarn" to get more in depth information.

That book sounds interesting although I'm not at all US local (Australian local at the mo). I have some Puffin in my stash for the same reasons that you got your. Everyone talks about it! I got it last year at Loop in London and it will one day become a hat.

At the moment I'm working on Stasis, a Brooklyn Tweed design out of Loft. It is a very unusual yarn. Very fine but strong but also like you said easy to rip if you want to. I think the finished pullover will be so nice to wear!

And I've been eying Tanis yarns for ages but too stingy to order! :) That stuff must be great!
