What a great episode! I lived in Iceland with my family from 2004 - 2006. We miss is oh so much! It is a wonderful place to raise children. I learned to knit while living there from a wonderful Danish friend, so knitting and Iceland go hand in hand for me. I am in the Iceland group on Ravelry. I have too much lopi to count - all bought at the Alafoss factory store in Mosfellsbaer (10 minutes from the captial city). Love Nammi in oh so blue; have had the traditional icelandic three cornered shawl for girls and the girl's Runa cardigan both by Ragga in my que for a while - think I'll need to cast on for that shawl - perfect for cool New Hampshire summers. Thanks again for a great podcast - really loved your theme this episode :-)

I was thinking knitting has a deeply embedded place in Scottish culture too, similar to Iceland. I am a Scottish/Australian and I know so many Scottish knitter - my dad and my brother can knit. I would love Purple Haze! Jude
I am dying to go to Iceland! I even went so far as to check flight costs. Maybe I'll be able to save enough to go in 2012 when I turn 40... Either that or go in to a chunk of debt to go sooner!
The pinky red colorway on Raga's Etsy store is very cheery and reminds me of spring tulips. But I really like the soft pastel-ish green colorway on her Knitting Iceland website. Great interview! I agree with the other posters that Iceland must be a wonderful place to live. To go everywhere and be able to talk about knitting (and to knit without being looked at oddly) is so much different than the US where people don't even know the difference between knit and crochet.

Hello! I love the Ooh So Blue colorway. But My Goodness Green is a close second. I usually choose greens over blues (I'm sure you can relate!), but there is something so snow-coney, icy, cool about that blue, it just blows me away!
Ooh so blue Nammi: perfect for a Pisces girl (like me!) to knit with while out on her kayak on the lakes nearby! I can just see working on a cowl while floating under a lovely summer sky...

ReplyDeleteThis is the first of your podcasts I listened to and I loved it! It makes me want to visit Iceland for sure. The tours sound awesome--maybe some day I can participate in one! All of the Nammi colorways are gorgeous but I think my favorite is the Oooh so Blue followed closely by Purple Haze!

ReplyDeletegreat interview! i´m a new listener, and will have to check out your other podcasts and website now! i´m from iceland and i learned some new stuff also! for me knitting the cardigans as a whole and then cutting them up is the normal way to do it - so i now finally understand why alot of foreign cardigan recipies have you knitting back and forth, which is such a nuance to me! for me knitting in a circle is so much faster, and once you´ve cut it once, it´s not so scary anymore :)

This interview put Iceland on my "Like to visit" list - now I just have to convince my husband that it's a great summer vacation trip! The "oooh so blue" shade is lovely!
ReplyDeleteHello! I love the Ooh So Blue colorway. But My Goodness Green is a close second. I usually choose greens over blues (I'm sure you can relate!), but there is something so snow-coney, icy, cool about that blue, it just blows me away!

Purple Haze! For numerous reasons: Purple is great AND my little one loves purple too! Can't beat that!

Loved the podcast interview. My son was in Iceland last year. I'd wish I'd asked him to bring back even more yarn. Knitting Icelands' yarns are beautiful...I love the Pinky/Red
